DC’s Comeback is underway downtown!

In 2023, we welcomed new employers downtown, celebrated new spaces like the Bloomberg Center at Johns Hopkins University on Pennsylvania Avenue NW, and continued to encourage more people to #BeDowntown. But we still have more work to do and more opportunity ahead, especially around Gallery Place-Chinatown. No matter what the future holds, there will be plenty of interest in and excitement for Chinatown’s next chapter.

We are fortunate to have successful examples of growth and change across DC– examples of old uses becoming new neighborhoods. Look no further than Union Market, Navy Yard and The Wharf. All of these spaces were transformed over a matter of years, each in its own way, but all with the same focus: bringing people together. And they became something special, not just destinations but neighborhoods. As we look to 2024 and beyond, we are focused on applying those lessons to our downtown: old uses, new neighborhoods.

There is already a lot of momentum downtown. We already have a lot of good things happening and we will build on that. Remember: always bet on cities. Cities are hubs of history, and culture and energy – and that will continue to be the case.
